A Work of Art

My favorite museum is the Milwaukee Art Museum.  It's on Lake Michigan and the design of the Quadracci Pavilion (by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava) is absolutely perfect for the art museum.  It's a beautiful museum, both inside and out. There are so many wonderful exhibits inside the museum, and we had spent hours there back when we lived in Milwaukee.

We were at the Lakefront with our cameras on a warm evening in late September several years ago.  The museum was open late that night, and the winds were calm, so the wings were open.  There are sensors on the wings that monitor wind speeds from all directions.  If the wind speed is 23 miles per hour for more than 3 seconds, the wings automatically close.

We knew they were getting ready to close when they turned off the outside fountain.  And I thought my night couldn't get any better until I glimpsed this composition - a reflection of the wings-open museum in the fountain water!

Once the museum closed for the evening, I turned in the opposite direction to capture this reflection in the fountain pool.
